Cooking Holidays
We offer some truly wonderful opportunities for those who are keen to learn how to master the very best of authentic Indian cuisine. We offer them mainly in south India but also in Jaipur, in Rajasthan where we have probably the most renowned cookery teacher who has appeared on many national television cookery shows and she takes her guests to the markets, then demonstrates the cookery in a professional kitchen and then you have the meal together.
From a colonial house in Cochin where you can dine as a house guest (while being shown the secret ingredients that go into a Keralan curry), to staying at a gorgeous house in Calicut where the owner demonstrates and you partake as well over a three hour session of how to make the most sublime Indian food – which is then served to the guests in the evening. Most people who stay at the house come from France (which shows how good the food truly is!) and one can either simply visit as a non participatory guest, or stay for three days to a week or as long as one wishes – learning about the intricacies of Indian cookery and one actually has the opportunity to cook each dish. Walk out in the morning with the owner to the markets and select your fresh fish and vegetables together – ready to be cooked in the afternoon or morning for that evening’s dinner. The tantalising markets are a real sight to behold – with the most gorgeous array of vegetables, herbs and fresh fish and seafood. In addition, the house has a swimming pool to cool off in the heat of the day and there is a long beach opposite that is almost always empty, where one can take long walks.
