Luxury Holiday Darjeeling Train
I recently had clients who returned from a luxury holiday in Darjeeling by train and they had the most of amazing time. They spent a few days at Kolkata one of the most “under-rated” and “under-visited” cities in India. We inclued one of the Glenburn experiences at Kolkata that left them marveling at the hidden treasures and unique history the city has to offer.
As they were travelling with their children, they were looking forward to the toy train journey to Darjeeling and it did offer them a fantastic experience. The “Toy Train” was the first to be built of its kind, and is still considered by UNESCO to be ‘the most outstanding example of a hill passenger railway’ in the world. Having said we at Indian Explorations do explore these journey’s ourselves before suggesting them to our clients. It’s a pretty tiring eight hour journey from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling and therefore we usually recommend the half day “Joy Ride”, a comfortable return journey from Darjeeling to Ghum. We always recommend that such trips should be booked at least six months in advance to make it easier for us to book seats in the first class carriage for our clients. You will be treated to enormous windows giving close up views of the mountain on one side and the valley on the other. The journey includes few stops mainly at Batasia Loop from where you might be stunned by the view of Kanchenjunga. For a hundred years these little trains have climbed through the clouds into the wonderful world of Indian hill railways thus making luxury holiday Darjeeling train holidays even more enjoyable for thousands or travellers.
